It is possible to find out the approximate life expectancy from the blood test

American scientists from the University of Cleveland have identified three main indicators of blood tests, which can be judged on the general state of human health and its prospects to live to old age. The level of lymphocytes is important.

The researchers concluded that indicators of immune status and inflammation can be considered as general indicators of the body's viability.

They analyzed data from 31,178 participants that doctors followed for 12 years and found a consistent relationship between lymphocyte levels and mortality.

Lymphocytopenia is a condition characterized by low lymphocyte levels. It significantly increases the risk of death from heart disease, cancer and respiratory infections such as influenza or pneumonia.

The association between lymphocytopenia and survival rate was particularly strong when low lymphocyte levels were accompanied by other abnormal blood counts: the distribution of red blood cells (the body's ability to maintain a healthy population of red blood cells) and the level of C-reactive protein (an indicator of inflammation).

The combination of these three indicators allowed specialists to create a so-called risk profile of patient mortality. People with a low-risk profile live ten years longer than those who lead the same lifestyle but have a high-risk profile.

Thus, the created system could allow doctors to use immune status indicators to identify patients with the highest risk of mortality at an early stage.
