Plant-based diet reduces symptoms of asthma

An international team of scientists has proven the usefulness of a plant diet to prevent asthma. They have also found that dairy and fatty foods increase the risk of asthma development. This is reported by Eurekalert.

Researchers from an international non-profit organization, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, have studied the effects of nutrition on asthma. They observed a group of patients eating fruits and vegetables for eight weeks. The experiment showed that they had a reduced need for medication to treat the disease and that asthma symptoms were less significant.

According to scientists, the positive effect of this diet may be due to the high content of fiber, antioxidants and flavonoids contained in plant foods.

In addition, experts have shown that the consumption of dairy products can increase the risk of asthma, and high fat consumption is associated with inflammation of the respiratory tract and impaired lung function.
