Russian scientists have found in buckwheat a protein that prolongs life

Specialists from the Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk) found sirtuins in buckwheat. These are proteins that are synthesized in the body and help counteract aging. Previously, it was proved that it is the enhances synthesis of sirtuins causes the rejuvenating effect and activation of regenerative processes in a low-calorie diet and during short term fasting. Krasnoyarsk scientists have found out that consumption of buckwheat porridge or products made of buckwheat flour also helps to increase sirtuin levels.

The positive effect of sirtuins on the body is based on epigenetic mechanisms. For instance, the protein SIRT1, which is produced in mammals, activates the genes responsible for the repair of damaged DNA sites. Today, many scientists are of the opinion that it is the increasing deficit of sirtuins with age that results in the accumulation of breakdowns in the hereditary matrix, which causes aging.

Among the ways to help increase sirtuin levels, most commonly considered are calorie deficiency or fasting episodes (such as interval diets). It has been found that mild stress experienced by the body in moderate food shortage activates the production of sirtuins. However, there are situations where starvation and lack of calories are harmful - in some diseases, pregnancy, breastfeeding, increased protein demand.

That is why the discovery of Siberian specialists plays an important role in shaping a diet that prolongs life. Experiments on animals have shown: the consumption of buckwheat groats or flour increases the level of sirtuins by 30 times in the body. Given that all mammals have similar metabolic pathways associated with sirtuins, similar processes will be observed in the human body.

Scientists also pay attention to the additional health factors associated with the use of buckwheat: among them, an abundance of fiber, supporting microbiome, and give a sense of satiety, high content of important amino acids, and vitamins B.
