Scientists have denied the existence of a "normal" pulse

Each person has his or her own heart rate - this is the conclusion reached by scientists at the Scripps Research Institute (USA). The article was published in the journal PLOS ONE.

It is believed that the normal resting heart rate for an adult is 60 to 100 beats per minute. If there are abnormalities in either direction, it is recommended to see a doctor to check your health.

The American researchers decided to check how the average values correspond to the heart rate at the individual level. They selected 92,457 adult U.S. residents. Each participant wore a special bracelet that measured their heart rate at least two days a week. The data was collected over a period of two years (2016 to 2018).

The results showed that resting heart rate, which is normal for one person, can be significantly different from that of another person by almost 70 beats per minute. For someone it was 40 beats per minute, for others it was 109 beats per minute. Individual rate is influenced by age, sex, body mass index, average night sleep duration.

In addition, scientists have found that the heart rate depends on the season: in July the heart beats a little less often, in January - a little more often. Some people may have short periods (about a week), when the heart starts beating 10 beats per minute more than usual.

How this affects human health remains to be seen by specialists.
