Life is shortened not only by obesity and hypertension but also by a genetic predisposition

Hypertension and overweight have a negative impact on life expectancy - this has been proven in many studies. However, experts from the University of Oska have been established that life is not only shortened by the disease itself, but also by information recorded in the genome about predisposition to it.

Experts analyzed the data of about 700 thousand people whose data were stored in three bio-banks (British, Finnish and Japanese), comparing the results of genetic studies and information on health status.

There was a reliable trend between the presence of genes that stored information on the high probability of obesity and hypertension and life expectancy. However, it was found that not all groups were equally affected by this predisposition. Thus, it turned out that hypertension reduces life in all three groups (residents of Great Britain, Finland, and Japan), which were in the focus of experts.

At the same time, genetic predisposition to obesity was a risk factor only for Europeans - it did not affect life expectancy in Japan. The researchers concluded that the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun somehow protected from the negative effects of genes that carry information about the high probability of obesity. Now it's up to scientists to find out the essence of these protective mechanisms.
