Seven to eight cups of liquid per day are associated with a longer life
A large British study has shown that a moderate combination of coffee, tea and water helps reduce the risk of premature death. The optimal intake was about seven to eight drinks per day, and the combination of coffee and tea in a ratio of about two to three was considered especially useful.
Many people know that water is necessary for the normal functioning of the body, and coffee and tea are valued for their taste and invigorating effect. But few people think about the fact that it is the combination of these three drinks that can affect life expectancy. A new analysis of data from more than 182 thousand UK adults has shown that the habit of drinking seven to eight cups of drinks a day significantly reduces the likelihood of death from a variety of causes.
The ratio of drinks turned out to be particularly interesting. People who drank coffee and tea in balance got the most benefits. Thus, when combining two cups of coffee and three cups of tea, the risk of death from respiratory diseases decreased by 72%, and the probability of dying from diseases of the digestive system decreased by 65%.
The study also showed that not only the total amount, but also the balance of drinks is important. With a low level of consumption — less than four drinks per day — replacing water with coffee or tea did not bring tangible benefits. But with a sufficient volume of liquid, replacing some of the water with coffee and tea had a pronounced positive effect.
At the same time, there are caveats. If the daily amount of drinks exceeded nine cups, then the risk of heart problems, on the contrary, increased. Therefore, moderation remains the key factor.
The authors emphasize that their conclusions are based on observations and do not imply a direct causal relationship. In addition, only the participants’ own dietary data was taken into account, without specifying whether they drank their drinks with sugar or milk. Nevertheless, the data obtained can create useful guidelines for those who want to maintain health and choose habits with long-term benefits.
