Sugary drinks accelerate hair loss
What we eat and drink every day directly affects the health of our hair. Sugary sodas and energy drinks turned out to be especially dangerous, which significantly increase the risk of hair loss. Every time we reach for a can of sugary soda, we hardly think about our hair. But scientists remind us that the habit of consuming a lot of sugar in liquid form can cost not only extra pounds, but also hair density.
An international team of researchers collected data from 17 scientific papers, which involved more than 61 thousand people. The findings were eloquent: men who drank more than 3.5 liters of sugary drinks per week were more likely to experience hair loss.
But it’s not just about soda. Experts have found that vitamin D and iron deficiency are also closely linked to hair growth problems. In people with low levels of these substances, hair loss was more common and more severe. But supplements with green tea or iron, on the contrary, sometimes helped slow down hair loss and improve their condition.
Interesting fact: in one study, the use of persimmon leaf extract made hair thicker, and marine protein complexes and eggshell-based supplements improved shine and density. However, such work is not always reliable yet and requires confirmation.
Scientists remind us that the beauty and strength of hair is not only about external care. Their health affects a person’s self-esteem and psychological state. Therefore, nutrition and habits play a much bigger role here than is commonly thought.
As a result, the recommendations are simple: less alcohol and sugary drinks, more foods with vitamin D, iron and protein. And if you add cruciferous vegetables to your diet — broccoli, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts — your hair will also thank you.
Experts emphasize that genetics and hormones are still key factors in hair loss. But everyday habits can speed up or slow down this process. And each of us has a chance to support hair health not only with vitamins, but with simple proper nutrition.
