Healthy eating reduces chronic discomfort
Many people used to think that excess weight is the main cause of joint pain. The study shows that even without severe weight loss, improving the quality of nutrition can significantly alleviate discomfort. Scientists from the University of South Australia have found that proper nutrition helps not only to lose weight, but also to reduce chronic pain in joints and muscles.
104 overweight or obese Australian adults participated in the experiment. For three months, they followed the principles of a healthy diet according to Australian guidelines: more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meat, less fast food, sweets and alcohol.
The results are impressive. The participants improved the quality of their diet by 22%, and the intensity of chronic pain decreased from 50% to 24%. In addition, they began to cope better with everyday tasks and felt more comfortable in life. The average weight loss was about 7 kilograms, but the key factor in pain relief turned out to be nutrition, not weight loss.
“Chronic pain is one of the most debilitating conditions,” said lead researcher Sue Ward. “Our data show that diet alone can reduce pain, no matter how much a person weighs.”
Dr Alison Hill adds: “Nutrition is important not only for long-term health. It affects how we feel every day. Simple dietary changes can actually improve well-being and reduce pain.”
It is emphasized that a healthy diet is a powerful tool for managing chronic pain and improving the quality of life. The study expands the understanding that nutrition affects not only the figure, but also the feeling of comfort and mobility.
Although more research is needed, today this work opens up hope for millions of people suffering from constant discomfort: a properly formulated diet can be one of the easiest and most affordable ways to improve their lives.
