Tomato-soy juice reduces the level of inflammatory markers

The systematic consumption of tomato juice enriched with soy components helps to reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory proteins in the bodies of obese adults. These findings were reported by researchers from Ohio State University, whose work was recently published in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research. This study highlights the potential of using functional foods to modulate chronic inflammation, which is a major contributor to various chronic diseases.

Tomato-soy juice reduces the level of inflammatory markers

Excess weight often causes chronic inflammation in the body. It doesn’t cause pain, but over time, it can damage blood vessels and organs, increasing the risk of serious illnesses. Scientists have long been searching for a way to reduce this inflammation through proper nutrition, and this experiment has yielded promising results.

For four weeks, obese volunteers consumed two servings of a special tomato-soy juice every day. This juice is rich in lycopene (a beneficial compound found in tomatoes that gives them their red color) and soy isoflavones. One month later, blood tests showed that the levels of inflammation markers in the participants’ bodies had significantly decreased. In comparison, regular tomato juice without additives did not have this effect.

The body reacts not only to two specific components, but to the entire “cocktail” of beneficial substances in the drink. The tests confirmed that this juice changes metabolism at the molecular level, helping the body to cope with stress more effectively.

Currently, scientists are conducting tests on patients with pancreatitis (pancreatic inflammation). Previous animal tests have shown that a tomato-soy blend can help alleviate the condition of these patients and reduce their pain. If clinical trials prove successful, this juice could become a simple and affordable way to support the health of patients with many chronic diseases.
